1984 Queen performed a series of concerts at Sun City, South Africa, during the international cultural boycott of the apartheid regime. The performances drew widespread criticism, led to a fine from the UK's Musicians' Union, and resulted in the band being placed on the United Nations' register of artists who had broken the cultural boycott. Queen defended the decision at the time, stating they were "a very non-political group" that played for audiences rather than governments. Roger Taylor later acknowledged the decision was "kind of a mistake," saying the band had good intentions but, in hindsight, regretted the choice. Source
