2015, 2021 Luke Combs used Confederate flag imagery in photographs and in his 2015 music video for “The Great Divide.” In 2021, he acknowledged that there was “no excuse” for the imagery and apologized, saying he now understood how painful and exclusionary the symbol could be to Black people and Black artists. He said he wanted people to feel welcome in the country-music community and discussed recognizing his own privilege and ways of improving inclusion. Source
2026 While discussing his song “Whoever You Turn Out to Be,” Combs explicitly said the song was intended to resonate with parents of LGBTQ+ children. He said that children do not choose who they will be attracted to and that he could not imagine the pressure of worrying that their parents might reject or disown them. Source
2017 Combs participated in the CMA Foundation's 2017 announcement of $1 million in support for Houston Independent School District, including $700,000 for music education, $50,000 in musical instruments and $200,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief. Source
