Keyboardist Roddy Bottum publicly came out as gay in the early 1990s, becoming a rare openly queer figure in mainstream hard rock. Bottum has said that fans later told him his visibility helped them feel more comfortable with their own sexuality, while describing his Faith No More bandmates as supportive of his coming out. Roddy Bottum has participated in the AIDS/LifeCycle Ride to raise money for organizations supporting people affected by HIV/AIDS. In 2012, he said he had personally raised more than $25,000, largely through contributions from Faith No More friends and fans. Source
