| 2026 | Barbara Butch became involved in a political controversy after signing a public statement in support of the proposed Yadan bill. The bill was intended to strengthen the fight against antisemitism in France. Butch supported its general aim because she has spoken openly about experiencing antisemitic abuse herself. She later said, however, that parts of the proposal were problematic and reportedly regretted signing the statement. The criticism focused on fears that the bill was written too broadly. Opponents argued that it could make it harder to express pro-Palestinian views, criticize the Israeli government, or question Zionism without being accused of antisemitism or support for terrorism. Because Butch had publicly supported the proposal, some activists called for her performances to be boycotted, and one of her concerts was disrupted by protesters, forcing security to escort her off the stage after just 20 minutes because protestors threw glass bottles and sabotaged electrical equipment. Butch said that people were free to disagree with her political position, but that this did not justify intimidation, exclusion, or preventing her from performing.
